————————————–Q&A————————————–

What have you been up to since your last DailyVenusDiva.com cover?

I was in the Spike Lee movie Chiraq and that was exciting! All of my scenes were with Angela Bassett, so it was a dream come true.

Celebrities like Melissa McCarthy and Amy Schumer have been in the news for denouncing the word plus size, and then you have Danielle Brooks and Gabourey Sidibe embracing the term. Why do you think there’re such differences in how these celebrities identify themselves and where do you stand?

Personally, I try not to get to caught up in titles, but I totally embrace the term Plus Size. At the same time, I feel like everyone has a right to determine how they refer to their body. Amy Schumer is nowhere near being plus size. I do not know why people call her that in the first place. Also, it seems like the term is often used towards smaller women to shame them. Ultimately I feel that people should embrace whatever term they feel comfortable with.

Tell me about Locked & Loaded.

Locked and Loaded is a “Size Sexy” dating event for plus size women and men who love them. It’s being presented by Curve Culture Boutique and my company The INdustry and is happening on 11/20 at The Godfrey Hotel. Every woman gets a lock, and every man gets a key, and they spend the evening finding their match.

What made you decide to do a dating event?

I was having a discussion with Qiana, the owner of Curve Culture Boutique about how so many plus size women were asking me to host a speed dating event. Qiana had already had plans to do one herself, so she suggested that we do it together.

What type of response have you received so far and do you plan to continue this event on a more frequent basis?

The response for Locked and Loaded has been great. We are so excited about it! I know for sure that we will have a packed house! It is going to be a fantastic event!

How is your love life and will men be able to connect with you on a personal level during the event?

Hmmm….well….after my last relationship I decided that it’s probably best for me to keep my dating life under wraps. Lol. But let’s just say I’m not married. Therefore I am open to all of the possibilities! Lol

In the cover image, you have on fitness apparel. I know that you’ve been on a mission to get physically fit. Why is that important to you?

I’m wearing a fabulous fitness outfit from Lane Bryant on the cover. They have the BEST workout clothes. Looking cute while I workout helps me to stay motivated. Lol. I just want to be healthy and lead an active lifestyle. I’m not concerned about what the scale says. I just want to feel good and be strong!

What are you doing to make sure you have fun working out?

I work out with my trainer Caprice O’bryant at Excuse Free Fitness, and I love her because her workouts are fun and creative. I also attend classes at my gym Fitness Formula Clubs because they embrace all fitness levels and are very supportive. I swim at FFC and swimming is my favorite way to workout. I have fun while I’m working out by making sure I go to “safe spaces” that embrace people of all sizes and provide a cool environment where everyone can get fit!

How can others follow your journey and join in on the fitness fun?

My #getfitwitherica workout events are mainly in Chicago, but in 2017 I will be traveling. You can follow me on Social Media to get more info.

What were some of your highlights of 2016 and what’s on your to-do list for 2017?

2016 was a great year. But I am ready to take 2017 by storm! I will be launching a new lifestyle blog and tour my one-woman show ” Fat Bitch!”. I also am planning a body empowerment summit in the Fall of 2017 and shooting a pilot for my sitcom.
