Several people and brands are making headlines during this year’s NYFW including comedian Maysson Zayid. The disability rights advocate who has cerebral palsy made her debut on Sept. 10 in the runway show of designer Carrie Hammer.

Zayid and 25 other powerful women were featured in the show, “Role Models Not Runway Models.” Instead of using traditional models, bankers, CEOs, social activists, tech leaders and entrepreneurs walked down the runway wearing designs created by Carrie Hammer.

Hammer creates stylish professional wear for women and her passion extends beyond fashion.  In 2014, she included the first ever model who happened to be in a wheelchair on the runway during her “Role Models Not Runway Models” show.

“I’ve been a performer for 15 years, I’ve been on Broadway, and I thought I had done it all. But when I walked out on that runway, I have never felt an adrenaline rush like that in my life,” shared Zayid in an interview after the show.
