And with their inclusive sizing of petites, missy and plus, I knew my Runway the Real Way inclination for diversity would be satisfied. As soon as I received my March meeting invitation for the AICI image association’s Sip and Shop soiree, I was thrilled to be able to get a firsthand sneak peek at the collection for (dare I say it with confidence after this seemingly endless winter in New York) Spring 2015!! Doncaster literally invented social selling with its women-to-women approach and the fact that a personal stylist shows you the line in the elegant and serene comfort of a private showroom at a boutique hotel in Manhattan – it’s maximum SWANK! I love feeling pampered and having individual, intentional, specific and personal style attention. It’s a wonderful aspect of the entire marketing and sales approach which ties in with the ambiance of the line. If a sizzle sells the steak, this has the makings of a great meal with every sense on overdrive. It’s a fashion experience by invitation and the entire time you are there, the quality of the product is communicated and on point. From the Carlyle Hotel address, to catering to the champagne to the salon atmosphere, they had me at hello! What’s not to like? To begin with, the complete collection can be viewed and purchased in its entirety exclusively through a Doncaster Stylist. It’s like a personal shopper’s paradise with a living/breathing catalogue in front of your eyes guided by a knowledgeable consultant who is there for your wardrobe needs. If you haven’t indulged in that sort of shopping adventure, you are in for a treat. It was a wonderful evening of camaraderie and, suffice it to say, the thought of florals and pastels and lightweight jackets (no more fur!) had me anticipating the spring weather which will be on its way hopefully by the time you read this!! So behold the spring 2015 trends done Doncaster style….
NOT SO MELLOW YELLOW
I am so thrilled that yellow is the pop of color that has all of our attention and has my fashion taste buds salivating. Last year it was mango and coral, this year lemon to sunny canary to marigold shades are on the horizon. I know it’s not for everyone, but a little makeup adjustment and selecting the proper hue that complements your skin tone is what you’ll need to do to ‘make it work’.
BLACK AND WHITE IS ALWAYS RIGHT
Whether color blocked, piped in bold contrast, abstract prints, stripes or checks….something in black and white will be the way to go this season! It’s always crisp and chic. The simple pieces mix and match and will give you lots of wardrobe mileage whether dressed up or down…
A blouse with a floral pattern literally is a wardrobe staple for spring. With this yummy pattern and the piping on the outside seam of the sleeve, the flowy shape of the blouse can be worn tucked in or out and give that little spring punch to any outfit.
NAVY AND WHITE
Always right and elegant, this tweed jacket is the perfect topper and looks bright with white, but jeans can work with it just as easily. And a bright red bag is gorgeous and perfectly suited as that complement with maximum contrast.
PASTELS WITH POP
Beautiful cropped length Capris are right on trend and are the bracelet sleeve length equivalent of pants! Fuller figured women have beautiful wrists and ankles and enjoy jewelry and shoes, so revealing these body parts is an invitation to show off gorgeous Spring accessories! Semi-precious gems and crystal bracelets are beautiful ways to embellish the lower arm and the chunky heeled sandals that are on trend are a welcome style for those of us who are into more than just walking from the curb to the car. I don’t like to change shoes during the day, I would much rather have a shoe that I can wear on the street and into the office, party or event without having to carry the obligatory ”foldable flats” that are so ubiquitous these days.
The quality of the Doncaster collection is evident when you see how the fit is so meticulous, the fabric is so enduring through multiple dry cleanings and wear and tear, the pieces are so evergreen that they work year after year and work with so many other items currently in a woman’s closet. I have pieces that I’ve had for years and because they are so refined, understated and elegant, the return on investment is realized over and over. You never regret those “power pieces” that serve you and are always appropriate and are marked by craftsmanship. They are your wardrobe workhorses and become part of your repertoire of reliables. European women know this and live by the quality creed. If there is any shopping mantra that Doncaster satisfies it’s the “what’s my cost per wearing?” Doncaster delivers and is a true double digit diva destination.
