Facebook To Charge A “Promotion” Fee After Reaching 1 Billion Users

Nothing brings me more enjoyment than posting a body positive or inspirational quotes and sharing it with the plus size women who read DailyVenusDiva.com. Not only does it serve as a constant reminder of how fabulous plus size women are, it’s also a great way to spread our message of thriving in your curves.

A few months ago I noticed the option to promote our Facebook Fan Page posts by paying an additional $15, $30, etc. but I figured that was Facebook’s way of making businesses pay for what many view as advertising. I didn’t think Facebook would subject basic users to same fee structure….I was wrong.

On Wednesday Facebook got experimental on us by allowing a small group to test their new “Promote” feature. This feature allows users to promote important pictures or announcements for a small fee, typically $7.00.

According to CNN, the feature was first tested out in New Zealand in May and was later expanded to a limited number of users in 20 countries.

A few months ago a friend of mine on Facebook asked if users would pay to use a service that they had been using at no charge since the beginning of Facebook’s inception and of course everyone said no. I was on the fence only because Facebook is a great way to promote the work we do with DailyVenusDiva.com but that’s where my cooperation in paying stops; on a business level. I can’t see myself paying for posts on my personal page but then again, you never know what you’ll do until you’re forced to make a decision and nothing has changed yet…..

I’m not sure if this will be eventually become a requirement for all users to post but Facebook isn’t immune to changes so my Magic 8 ball tells me that they’ll be making a major announcement  very soon.

Would you pay $7.00 to promote a post? Would you pay a basic fee to use Facebook? If you stopped using Facebook would you go back to using MySpace?

  1. If I had the budget to promote more I would most certainly do it. It is the price of doing business.

  2. Will be testing this pay to promote schemeby facebook, if it will bring more likes, shares or visitors to my pages (better if to my sites) then I’ll be doing it again and again. :)
