In Teslyn’s Words……
I feel privileged that you chose me as the cover model for this issue. I was the cover model about 3 years ago for DailyVenusDiva.com (Venus Diva Magazine). I have so much appreciation for DailyVenusDiva.com. I have received so much education and inspiration throughout the years. I truly would not be modeling if it wasn’t for the wisdom I’ve gained from the online magazines.
Journey of a Plus Size Model…..
My journey at the beginning of modeling wasn’t that fun. Actually, my first experience in the modeling industry was a scam! My parents took me to an open call in Dallas (Those dream crushers only wanted my money)! But, it did however peak my interest in the industry.
At the age of 16 I met T.V Personality Andy Paige and she told me that I should consider modeling as a career. So that is what really sparked my interest.
The obstacles that I had to overcome is learning that modeling is a cut throat industry and that you shouldn’t take everything personally. Not every client is going to book you. Through out the years I’ve learned to also embrace and love my size.
Everyday life vs. Modeling life…..
Modeling does affect my everyday life. As a plus size model you still have to take care of your body. I became a vegetarian about 2 years ago. (wow, I can’t believe its been that long) and I’ve lost about 20 pounds in the last year or so. I did this not to fit a societal standard but a healthy standard. I also want a continue to have a successful modeling career.
Dreams of Relocating…..
I’ve thought about relocating to New York City and I am keeping my options open. There is a strong possibility that I may be making that move in the future. New York is where it is at. In the meantime I am definitely enjoying my Midwest Clientele. We will see!!!!
I would tell my younger self…..
Do even more research in the industry, to choose my bookings even more wisely and definitely to move to a big city at the age of 18 to take advantage of more opportunities.
People would be surprised to know…..
I have Obsessive Compulsive tendencies. LOL Examples: After I set my alarm clock, I will look at it at least 5 times to make sure I set it, I also check at least 5 times to make sure that I unplugged the curling iron. I feel like I carry those tendencies in my everyday life as far as business and clients. I always have to check and double check. LOL!
