Robyn Lawley Makes History As Ralph Lauren’s 1st Plus Size Model

Ralph Lauren is finally getting it. The upscale American lifestyle company made headlines recently for hiring plus size model Robyn Lawley to represent their brand. The 6’2, 23 year old Australian beauty is Ralph Lauren’s first plus size model.

Before working with Ralph Lauren, Robyn graced the covers of French Elle and Vogue Italia. She began modeling when she was 16 and after being discouraged by trying to keep up with industry’s standards for straight sized models, she decided to push the envelope of plus size modeling by appearing in several high end fashion campaigns.

Robyn recently appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the announcement. On the morning show she shared how she took a break from modeling, “I gave up trying to be a model. And then I moved to France and fell in love with food all over again, and came back much bigger than I was. And I saw plus- size models doing well. And I decided that I wanted that, I wanted to be in magazines,” Lawley said.

At 19, she landed her first contract as a plus size model with the Wihelmina Modeling Agency and the rest is herstory.
