Amber Riley Makes Her New York Stage Debut in Cotton Club Parade
Amber Riley Makes Her New York Stage Debut in Cotton Club Parade: On Glee, Amber Riley gets to show off her singing chops as Mercedes by singing big ballads and soulful favorites. No stranger to musical theater, Riley is preparing to make her New York stage debut in Cotton Club Parade this November.
MTV recently spoke with Riley to get her thoughts on performing in the Broadway Style revue, “It’s an ode to Duke Ellington and that era of music,” she said. “I always say I was born in the wrong era. I should have been right along with Lena Horne and Ethel Waters and all those singers, ’cause I love that type of music. So this is definitely a different venture, a different area of entertainment for me…so I’m really excited.”
Musical theater is nothing new to Amber Riley. She has appeared onstage in Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Into the Woods and Mystery on the Docks with the Los Angeles Opera.
According to Broadway.com, Cotton Club Parade is a Broadway-style revue celebrating Duke Ellington’s years at the famed Harlem nightclub in the ’20s and ‘30s. The show features singers, dancers and variety acts performing songs.
Cotton Club Parade will play New York City Center for seven performances, November 14-18.
