Queen Latifah & Jill Scott Shine In ‘Steel Magnolias’ Remake {VIDEO}

Queen Latifah & Jill Scott Shine In ‘Steel Magnolias’ Remake {VIDEO}

The new “Steel Magnolias” are curvy girls Queen Latifah and Jill Scott, seasoned actresses Alfre Woodard and Phylicia Rashad.  This talented group of actresses will star in Lifetime’s remake of the classic 1989 film.

The contemporary remake of the film follows six Louisiana women, M’Lynn (Queen Latifah), Ouiser (Woodard), Clairee (Phylicia Rashad), Truvy (Scott), Annelle (Oduye) and Shelby (Condola Rashad), as they support each other through the trials and tribulations of life.

The original Steel Magnolias starred Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Darryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts.

We’re still waiting for the ETA date to be announced but in the meantime enjoy this trailer…..we sure did!

    It is one of the only movies with a diabetes theme, too. And with Type II diabetes being so prevalent in the African American population, it will be so much more relate-able to entertainment and educate this at risk segment of society. I love when remakes are relevant….brilliant!!

    I truly loved the original Steel Magnolias. I’m looking forward to seeing the remake with this group of powerful women.

    Am I wrong in feeling like Steel Magnolia’s is one of those classic movies that shouldn’t be remade? I absolutely love all the women participating, but even as I’m watching the trailer, something in my mind is saying “No!” I’m sure it’s going to be a great movie, but for me, nothing can top the original.

    I am both disgusted and appalled that they are making an African American version of Steel Magnolias. And quite frankly, I don’t care who it offends. Every time I see the trailer, it literally makes me sick to my stomach. Meet the Browns, House of Payne and For Better or Worse wasn’t enough. No, now they have to steal and destroy an all-white American classic. It sickens me! The black community won’t stop until the white man has nothing left to give. This country is going straight down the crapper, and the white race is fully to blame for allowing it to happen.
