Yvette Wilson Of ‘The Parkers’ Dies of Cervical Cancer

Comedian and actress Yvette Wilson who played Andell Wilkerson on UPN sitcoms “Moesha” and “The Parkers” died Thursday of cervical cancer.

Wilson was the best friend and voice of reason to Mo’Nique’s character (Nikki Parker). She was also the owner of a restaurant named after her character.

Before “The Parkers,” it wasn’t common to see a cast of curvy women on television but for 5 seasons we laughed, cried and yelled “Heyyy” along with the women of “The Parkers.” The writers, casting directors, producers and actresses involved with this show helped a nation of women and girls identify with images displayed on national television which is definitely a thing of the past.

Her big break came with Thea, a short-lived sitcom in 1993. Thea was cancelled after 19 episodes but the experience helped her get a role in House Party 3. In addition, Wilson also had a minor role in the 1995 comedy movie Friday as Smokey’s blind date and appeared in films such as Poetic Justice, starring Janet Jackson, and the film parody Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.

News of Wilson’s battle with Cancer began to circulate when the website “Yvette Wilson CANCER SUCKS FUND” was created to help raise money for her treatment.
