Hands down, fall is my favorite season of the year and not because my birthday is in October but because fall is just beautiful. The weather is pleasant and crisp; it’s by far the most colorful season and it introduces fashion styles that never cease to amaze me! These fall fashions have really “wowed” me upon introduction onto the fashion scene and we should take full advantage:
Capes/ponchos
Sonsi by Lane BryantYou don’t have to be Little Red Riding Hood skipping in the forest to visit Grandma to rock a cape these days! I am loving the neutral tone capes and ponchos that are giving traditional coats a run for their money! Granted, ponchos/capes came onto the fashion scene last year but they are really making a statement this season. They are better suited for a casual look with either classic cut or skinny jeans. The balance between a wide poncho and a thin leg jean is fabulous! Most capes/ponchos button at the neck and some come with hoods, so you won’t have to worry about accessorizing it with hats and gloves.
Sweater Maxi Dresses
Old Navy
I am a huge advocate of the maxi dress and I adore wearing them in the summer. They are so easy to slip on and pair with some sandals. So imagine my excitement when I saw sweater maxi dresses this season! They are basically body hugging sweaters that are really long. I adore these because they offer the easy feeling of wearing a maxi but are warm for the cooler weather. Wear your favorite pair of booties or heeled, knee-high boots because these dresses can tend to make you seem shorter. They are also cute with a cropped denim jacket and pashmina scarf wrapped around your neck.
Thick Heeled Pumps
Finally a heel that isn’t as thin as a pencil. I enjoy a pump that has a thick heel but doesn’t look too disco or goth. Not only is this a new style but it gives ladies a break from aching feet. You can basically wear these pumps with the same outfits as the thinner heel pumps: dress, pencil skirt, slacks and a blouse, the possibilities are endless! The chunky heel pump comes in an almond point toe, square toe or a round toe. I prefer the round toe because it keeps the tip of the shoe from looking even more clunky. A nice rounded toe pump, nicely balances out the heel to toe ratio. I have seen them in solid colors as well as in designs such as snake skin and hounds-tooth. If you choose to wear a design print shoe, make sure that your outfit is subtle and compliments the shoe well.
Bright Colored Pants
Asos CurveNo more boring blacks, grays and khakis! This season, we were shown the colors of the rainbow through ankle-cropped pants/slacks. I love adding a pop of color to any ensemble and being able to add color through such a dominant piece of clothing instantly makes your ensemble a stand out-fit! Cropped pants added with a cute flat and cardigan gives a new spin on the all black cigarette pants that Audrey Hepburn brought to popularity. It invites a warmth of color and a playful look to a beautifully pieced together style. This look can go from business to casual with the addition and subtraction of just a few accessories. With it being introduced in the fall, you can find these pants in beautiful hues of yellows, brown/tan, oranges and reds!
