Amy Winehouse was found dead today (Saturday July 23, 2011) upon arrival by ambulance crews who were called to her home in London’s Camden area. The talented singer was only 27.
Throughout her short life and illustrious career Amy appeared in headlines not only for her talent but her legal troubles, alleged drug and substance abuse and a list of other things viewed negatively. For some, these issues overshadowed her career but for others this solidified her place as a great soul singer who like many dealt with personal demons. While Amy will be remembered for scandal on a personal level, professionally she will be remembered as a great artist who blended jazz, soul, doo-wop and pop for a sound that music lovers could really get into.
The details surrounding her death are a bit sketchy so instead of filling your head with speculations DVD prefers celebrate her 27 years on earth.
Her 2006 release Back to Black was her standout, second and final studio album. This album catapulted her into superstardom by incorporating 1960s soul music styles and modern R&B production,. Winning 5 awards during the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, she definitely made a name for herself and made music enthusiasts take notice.
Today we’re featuring her video for Tears Dry On Their Own, the 4th single released from her 2006 album. Her appreciation for 60′s soul music is evident as this song samples music from Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s 1967 smash hit, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
