Ah Jill Scott!
Who doesn’t love Jill. She’s sassy enough to be your favorite celebrity best friend and sexy enough to be the plus size woman that men lust after. Since forcing us to find out “Who Is Jill Scott?” in 2000, I’ve been hooked.
With the release of her fourth studio album, Light of the Sun (June 28th), we’re starting to see Jill Scott everywhere.
Recently she showed up looking younger and fresher than ever on the June 2011 cover of Ebony magazine. In the exclusive interview, readers were privileged to find out more about this talented woman who has a knack for being honest and forthcoming in her music.
On ‘Giving compliments and people watching’:
I just think it’s silly to be stingy with compliments. If you see someone and they strike you as beautiful in any way, why not let them know? I love faces, but I like to take in people in general. I’m a world-class people watcher. I like to watch people’s body movements, their expressions. It says so much about them.
On ‘Relaxing while performing’:
I remember seeing Kathleen Battle perform, and she was doing all this work; I mean, opera is work, but she was still relaxed enough to smile during her performance, and that stayed with me. I wanted to be able to project that kind of ease.
On ‘The place she’s in now’:
I’m in a good place. I’m past caring about some things that never mattered in the first place and in love with my baby boy. I’m also un-afraid. I know how much music has always meant to me, how much it means to us all, and I know there’s someone out there, maybe just one someone, who can feel inspired by being brave.
