Mia Amber Davis: Curvy Angel With Style, Class & Grace

I don’t know why I keep checking online to read more about the tragic death of Mia Amber.  It is almost like I just don’t and can’t believe that she is gone.  She was so young and so beautiful with a warm spirit and I was hoping to meet her at this year’s Full Figured Fashion Week events and one day maybe even work directly with her.  The shocking news of her sudden death is just a reminder to me of how precious our lives really are and that we should continue to follow our dreams.  Mia was an example of a woman who was living the dream, doing what she loved.

As I continue to pray for her husband, family & the tons of fans and friends that she had I am reminded that troubles don’t last always and that God has a greater purpose for all things.  Only He knows what that purpose is though.  Mia Amber Davis was an angel in the industry, with style class and grace and someone I have looked up to and followed for years since I started this journey into plus modeling.  Every victory that she won as far as being seen and heard in this industry was a victory for us all.  She  was and always will be someone I will never forget because she taught me confidence is equal to self-acceptance and love.

One of my favorite pictures of her was one that said “I celebrate my curves”, this sums it up for me when I think of Mia.  She encouraged us to speak up for ourselves and demand stylish clothes that fit.  She didn’t change to fit a mould.  She was REAL.  As I look at videos of her at photoshoots and her walks on the runway even her most recent video on youtube, my heart is heavy that she has passed away but she really will never be forgotten. I thank God for her success and that she left us all with the knowledge of her experiences as a multi-talented working full figured women in the industry and the many injustices that she faced.  It reminds me that our work to change sizism has only begun.

We as full figured women need to really get together and let our voices be heard and continue to let it be known that we are more than just whatever label society puts on us.  We matter, and contrary to popular belief…we were all made to be different!  It always surprises me when I think about how the media wants us to all look and act the same…that paper doll, cookie cutter, barbie image.  We have some beautiful plus sized models but what makes them even more beautiful is that each one is so very unique, representing the very diverse looks of ALL women.  I have learned so much from Mia and though I never met her, she was someone who I looked up to, admired and had respect for.  From her videos and photos I can tell she was a woman with a sweet spirit and I thank God for the person that she was and the legacy that she has left us with.

My deepest condolences to her husband, family and close friends.  Let’s continue to follow in her footsteps of greatness, unity and love for all people.  God Bless!

I had the opportunity to meet as well as work with Mia on the Star Jones Show; if it were not for Mia I would have never been given the opportunity to go on the Star Jones to share my story. Mia was a truly beautiful person; I was on the show to do a segment about my over weight son that I am concern about. Mia sent me an email after being on the show wanting to know how he was doing; Thank you Mia for teaching me to not give up on my dreams and I will continue to work hard at helping my son.
