Yesterday Tia Williams at Essence Magazine stopped by the Wendy Williams Show to talk about the latest in plus size fashion.
If you missed this episode and are curious to see what plus size fashion was featured, you’re in luck!
The Maxi Dress: This is a great example of the standard maxi dress that every woman should have in their closet. Bold color, paired with flat sandals is fun and flirty. This convertible wrap dress accentuates the waist with a belt, and can be tied as a strapless, two strap or a halter.

The Jumpsuit: This look is a throwback to the 70’s, but with a modern twist. Adding a belt always helps to accentuate the waist and enhance your curves, but note the detail of the corset belt. Corsets are trendy right now, but might be a bit too revealing for some. As an alternative, the corset belt is a creative way to interpret this trend.

The Leopard Print Dress: Animal print remains a top trend, and most curvy women might feel they can’t pull off a full animal print dress, but again the cut and the fabric make all the difference. The additional fabric on the hips is thinly layered and the pleats give it definition. Paired with nude pumps, as an alternative to black, lightens up this look for spring. Also, consider full-coverage control undergarments for this type of form fitting dress.

The Sequined Mini-Dress: This look is all about texture. Sequins are definitely on trend, but remain timeless. The cut of this mini-dress offers full coverage but the deep V-back makes it sexy, especially when paired with sparkly platform pumps. With a dress like this one, it’s important to pay attention to your undergarments, a well-fitting bra and control undergarments (i.e. spanx) are essential!

I’m stoked that Monif C’s dress made it on. She’s worked so hard it’s nice to see the dress decorating more curves.
You know, it behooves me to say that it seems there will always be a size 12 in the bunch. I know it’s not a size 2, but it’s not actually a Plus size in my book. I’d say size 14 thru infinity would fit the bill. The clothing were nice and the models did a great job; however, they were too tamed for my taste.
I’d like to see a fashion show put together for Plus ladies that “WOWS” them! No disrespect to the designer. But I really haven’t seen the WoW Factor here.
I’ve been a Plus Model for many years and I know what’s hot and what’s not. Of course, every body is different and every curve is dangerous in their own rights. I’d just like to see something I haven’t already seen walk the catwalk. Just my humble opinion.
I really enjoyed the fashion show but the one thing I wished they would have told us is who makes the shoes the young lady with the black jumper had on and where we can we purchase them from!!!!!
I know all of these great plus size models! Great going gals. Woo Hoo!!
@ NinaSky I agree… There something lacking i plus size fashion.
