Full Figured Fashion Week(end)™ Los Angeles Celebrates Curvy Women

The lights have dimmed but the excitement generated by Full Figured Fashion Week(end)™ Los Angeles continues. Held last month at the Hyatt Regency in Los Angeles Founder and Executive Producer Gwen DeVoe brought her team and signature ground breaking moves from New York to a city not known for plus size anything. Corporate sponsor Sonsi was back again with the photobooth and the a new version of the Sonsitini. See the level of fun you missed?

The Los Angeles version of the brand was the third such event that I attended as a member of the Curvy Collective; a group of bloggers co-founded by The Curvy Fashionista Marie Denee who were tasked with covering the events of the weekend. The members of the Curvy Collective did a fantastic job of covering an event in a way mainstream media can and will not. From the opening night event, Curves for a Cure, hosted by R&B Singer Kelly Price, to the panel discussions in which new business owners were given helpful tips, to aspiring models learning the do’s and don’ts of the trade, to the day ending with “The State of the Curvy Community” panel discussion. Not only did everyone involved discuss panel specific topics but went in depth about issues both within and outside of the plus community. For this fact alone everyone involved in the event as either an attendee or panelist they should be applauded.

Being a male attending a female dominated venue, the one thing that was the same in Los Angeles was the collection of curvy confident ladies in attendance at all events. Not only was this event the pinnacle of networking for the plus-size fashion community but some real issues where discussed which resulted in the Plus Size Community Action List . During the runway finale surprises included the powerful I am Beautiful video from IGIGI featuring the face of Full Figured Fashion Week™ Rosie Mercado and Executive Producer Gwen Devoe and Sharon Quinn walking the runway for the Abundance Boutique.

Designers showcasing were Sonsi, Lane Bryant, IGIGI, Kiyonna, Forever 21+, Hips and Curves, Chan.nel Karma, Abundance, Plush Boutique, Sassy Rebel, Sealed With a Kiss Designs, Jill Alexander Designs, and Youtheary Khmer. Even though there were a few technical difficulties throughout the weekend you absolutely could not stop the show. Bottom-line if you missed the activities in LA you once again missed history in the making.

Oh my dear Glen! He is a huge supporter of us curvy divas and it is amazing to have a man’s point of view and most important respect.

This event was so successful and I regret not being able to attend.
But I am so there for the next one.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Curvy hugs,
    Olga

    Hi Glen!

Thanks for the Sonsi shout out…so glad you enjoyed the photobooth and our Sonsi-tini again!

It was such an honor to be title sponsor of such a curve-filled, beautiful event! We were thrilled to have our collection featured on the runway- but most of all, it was great to connect with some West Coast fashionistas :)

    Thanks again!

Sounds like a really great time! I am so happy that our voices are being heard and more is being done for the full figured woman….there is such a good vibe in the air when everyone comes together for something positive. I would have loved to been in LA for this but am glad to get the scoop right here about it, thanks so much. I also got a chance to meet Gwen Devoe and Sharon Quinn during NYC FNO and it was really nice to have met these women in person…beautiful and vibrant.
