As loving parents our main goal is to provide a loving and safe environment for our children; and this we do when they are in our care.
But what happens when they start getting ‘too’ old to trick or treat with mom and dad??
This starts happening around 6th grade, if you are lucky 7th . Now they hit the mall or like to visit other towns near by. This is the time when you have to pay close attention to who their friends are. Ask for their phone numbers and also call up their parents and introduce yourself. Make the proper connections.
I know you want to be the best parent and also remain your child’s friend. But sometimes this becomes hard to do. Let her know you will allow her to go out with her friends as long as you know where she is at and that you will be dropping them off and picking them up. Give her some glow in the dark bracelets or flash on gear so she can be seen at night when the roads are dark while she tricks or treat.
My favorite thing to do which keeps my children home is I always host a ‘Killer’ Halloween party in our home. I like to get my kids friends involved. They help me cook ,decorate and even dress up to scare our other guests. We even have an invitation committee. They choose their favorite music hits and blast them and yes I also get my dancing groove on. I let them party until midnight and give them their hang out space as well, usually one of our rooms where they can act silly and just have their private talks.
If you want to change things up talk to the other parents so the party can be hosted in a different home every year.
Many children go missing on Halloween night, please be extra careful with your children and enjoy this fun holiday and take lots of pictures!!
And if you have extra candy send it my way…….lol.
