On Saturday, September 25th UNCF & Target will sponsor the 32nd edition of An Evening of Stars® with a Tribute to Chaka Khan being taped live at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California.
UNCF An Evening of Stars®, formerly the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars®, first aired in 1979, and since that time has become one of the longest running and most successful televised events in U.S. history. Over its 32-year history, UNCF An Evening of Stars® has raised more than $200 million that has helped hundreds of thousands of students attend college and graduate. In recent years, UNCF An Evening Of Stars® has featured a Who’s Who of remarkable talent, including Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Nancy Wilson, Beyoncé, Anita Baker, Jill Scott, Whoopi Goldberg and others.
Previous recipients of the UNCF Award of Excellence are Lou Rawls (2004), Quincy Jones (2005), Stevie Wonder (2006), Aretha Franklin (2007), Smokey Robinson (2008), Patti LaBelle (2009) and Lionel Richie (2010). Tickets to the taping are available through Ticketmaster and Pasadena Civic Auditorium Box office now. UNCF An Evening of Stars® will be televised nationally in January 2011.
Confirmed participants joining UNCF President and CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax will be Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, El DeBarge, Estelle, Faith Evans, Fantasia, Melanie Fiona, Ginuwine, Milini Khan, Ledisi, Bettye Lavette, Herbie Hancock, Angie Stone, Mark Stevens, Soledad O’Brien, Akon, LeVar Burton, Mo’Nique, Taraji P. Henson, Quincy Jones, Tom Joyner, Boris Kodjoe, Nicole Ari Parker, Amber Riley, Tracie Thoms, Bobb’e J. Thompson, Shaun Robinson and Lauren Velez. Also in attendance will be Malik Yoba, Warren Ballentine, Tatiana Ali and Kim Coles.
Proceeds help to continue UNCF’s mission of aiding those who need and deserve an education.
