A while ago we announced that Alice Tan Ridley, Precious star Gabourey Sidibe’s mom, was a contestant on America’s Got Talent. Last night, in the finals it came down to Gabby’s subway singing mom, and the Studio One Young Beast Society hip-hop dance group. Both acts were competing for the last spot in the show’s finals which airs next week and a chance to win the $1 million prize.
The decision was made by the judges Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne. Both Judges felt that the dancers should advance, as a result Alice was sent home.

I was moved the first time I heard Alice sing. Understanding her history made clear to me how she could sing with such depth and feeling. You can see through her eyes and into her soul when she sings unlike any I have seen in a long time. I’m sure that many of the contestants have a story, but for the judges to pass her by was nothing more in my opinion than business as usual and pure marketing. Who would sell more in the future. The act that was up against her was as old as her last preformance in the subway. I think that Alice has paid her dues in pain and suffering enough and if anyone on the entire show understands people more it’s Alice who has spent her life hearing the stories of the less fortunate. I truly hope someone will sign up her talent immediately. Alice God Bless you , the one who shares his passion.
It was the dumbest decision I have ever ever ever listened to. I almost cried. How on earth could they chose the other grp of kids over Alice? That women is beyond amazing with the voice of an angel. The first time I heard her I said, ” that is what God sounds like when He sings”. I can only pray someone signs her up to a huge contract. You go girl. We love you.
@concetto, I don’t even think it was business as usual that was behind the decision to pick Studio One. It was pure and utter BS. First of all, you agree that Alice can definitely sell records and tickets to a performance. Who would pay to see the dance group by themselves? This teen group will probably not even stay together long as you know how it is with large groups, they diverge at some point for many reasons. Alice would definitely have been in it for the long haul, talented and beautiful the whole time.
I guarantee you Studio one will not even be in the final five, but Alice might well have been. Also if the voting put her in the Top 5 on Tuesday night, who are the judges to overturn the will of the voters and pull her out of the top 5? If she really placed 6th, so be it. I hate that Judges Pick gimmick so freakin’ much. Sorry for the long rant, I just feel really strongly about this.
I am very very dissapointed to see Alice go. This woman is phenonal in talent, spirt and presence.
I truly pray that America and the world can find a place for her entertainment. I have heard her in the subway and you are not able to pass her by without stopping and futhermore you will not regret taking the time to listen. If you know talent you will easily see and hear that Alice has it. God bless you and I hope and pray that this is just your beginning.
As unfair as this choice was is heartbreaking to me. In all fairness everyone should get the chance for people to voice their choice. I myself as many others did, voted at least ten times for Alice. Then we find out she is unfairly cast into the decision by only two people (judges) instead of all of us who love her. If AGT is to be fair it should be the viewers decision to cast their votes that is why we watch. I hardly call that fair and very rude to the viewers to exclude our votes and leave the future of two acts in the hands of only two judges decision now that is unfair to the viewers and the Alice.
I think it was totally unfair and Ms Ridley should have been put through. The people should have voted her through not the judges. I won’t watch the rest of the show anymore. I’m truly disappointed in Sharon Osborne especially since she said she could relate to Ms. Ridley and sounded like she was in her courner all the way. So unfair!
I was totally shocked that she was voted off. I actually thought she had a good chance of winning. I love her singing and her stage persona. It was such a bummer!
Sharon is so unfair. She is not judging on the talent she’s only thinking about the amount of hearts she’s going to break. There was 1 Alice and a group of kids so she broke one heart.
I felt so bad for Alice, i even don’t like the show anymore.
We knew we had a winner when Alice had her audition. She is wonderful. I’m happy I never heard her sing in the subway because I don’t think I would ever get on the train.
She has to remember that most of the non-winners go on to bigger and better things. All the best to her.
