Marks and Spencer, London based clothing store, announced that they were previewing a line of school uniforms for plus sized children as young as three years old. A spokesman for Marks and Spencer stated “It is a small online trial running in response to customer demand. Marks and Spencer is the leading schoolwear retailer and we want to make sure our schoolwear range is accessible for children of all shapes and sizes”
There has been an outcry in England about M&S expanding their sizing options with interesting points of view. I have read some who say that their choice to extend their sizes speaks to the state of childhood obesity in the UK and how this is indicative of a serious epidemic. Others say that it is a direct result of prosperity in England, calling the overweight childern spoiled and “overindulged”, blaming middle class families who drive their children to school and give them whatever they like.
