When ABC Family’s new show HUGE first aired, many objected to the show for it’s display and acceptance of plus size teens. I admit, I was a bit skeptical of the title and I was concerned that it would have negative results, but I was wrong. Each week I tune into HUGE starring Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray) and I enjoy every single episode. Not only is the show family friendly but the writers manage to infuse life long lessons that everyone (plus size or not) could benefit from. Below are words and reasons why you too should be a fan of HUGE!

I am surprised that I like this show. So many shows that are supposed to be sympathetic are really condescending to me. I hate The biggest Loser and Jillian’s yelling and berating, Ditto for all of Dr Drew’s rehab shows and the various hoarder shows. They feel less bout helping and more about mocking these poor people who can lose weight/quit drugs/clean their houses.
Huge has all these nice moments where the kids talk about being teens and that angst and the impact of the weight. I think it’s telling that the Jillian like character on this show is a bit of a nut job.
