Ladies, Do You Suffer From the Black Pants Syndrome?

Do you go to work most days if not everyday wearing long black pants?

If you have an interview or client meeting is the first thing you pull out the closet a pair of black pants?

Or are you one of those who create a uniform for work? You know, black pants and white shirts (maybe a solid color shirt)  even though you don’t work in a restaurant or movie theatre.

If so, I’m here to provide a cure for your Black Pants Syndrome (BPS). You do have other choices so have no fear - we’ll take baby steps. First thing first…

Stop hiding! Wearing all black in the summer time while everyone else is beaming with bright colors makes you stand out more about you than you think. Part of looking your best is not just about camouflaging, focus on highlighting your best assets as well. There’s got to be at least one thing that you like about your body. Whether it’s your cleavage, your eyes, or hair, give it some extra attention. Trust me, it’s a great pick-me-upper.

Lighten up! You may be afraid to venture off into more bright and cheery colors so try a chocolate brown tailored pant or even a gray pant with cuffs. Once you pair it with your solid color tops or even a printed blouse, your look is a lot lighter and weather appropriate. Besides, black clothing absorbs heat so try to save the all black for winters.

Show some legs! Try wearing capris or even a pencil skirt, show a little bit of those fabulous legs and let the sun add some color to match the rest of your body lol. Your legs are pasty after wearing black pants all winter long aren’t they? :)

Dress it up! You can ditch the pants altogether and go for an easy-to-wear career dress. If you’re not quite down with the floral, tribal prints happening this season try solid color shirt dresses that are appropriate for work.

Spice it up! Shoes for the most part always fit, so even if you go with black shorts, play it up with some funky shoes! You can also add pops of color elsewhere. Maybe a teal colored top and a printed summer scarf could brighten things up a bit. Of course a bright colored clutch and bold accessories could make any outfit pop. Have fun with your outfit!

  1. I love this shirtdresss and clutch gorgeous! I am not big on pants but maybe that is because for me finding the perfect fitting pants is so challenging and also I just love wearing dresses and skirts…I have seen ladies with BPS and yes it actually does draw more attention to them in the summer time. One of the best things a full figured cutie can do for herself is invest in some solid colorful pieces or jewelry to brighten up her summer wardrobe and definitely playing up your best assets is key! I like balance between fitted and unfitted styles. If its fitted on top then it is A lined or flowy on bottom and if it is flowy on top then I like a more fitted skirt. The key is to balance your look so that at least one piece looks structured…adding a belt or mini sweater helps but light layering can add dimension too for instance a maxi dress with wide belt and loose, flowy open top…:)

  2. I love this article, it reminds us to really have fun with our outfits! It makes me wish I wore something brighter today :)
