My favorite summer show is back on – So You Think You Can Dance! The 1st show was this past Thursday night and I was pleasantly surprised. Like last season, there was a plus size female who auditioned and she could actually dance! Unfortunately, the one from last season injured herself and the one from this season did not make it past the choreography round. But none of that mattered to me, what mattered was that they defied the stereotypes and proved that size is not a reason you cannot be graceful.
Forget the costumes on the 2 left feet displayed on Dance Your Ass Off. I’m talking about real dancing. These girls took the time to do the research and get the proper training needed. This is one thing I’m very adamant about with Plus Modeling.
I get so tired of the complaints of larger size models not being used yet many larger size models won’t do the research and find out what type of pictures are required to be in certain magazines or ad campaigns. We want acceptance yet we won’t accept their standards. Many magazines will take larger size models but we have to keep it classy. We know we have curves and cleavage, but we don’t need to show every inch of our body. Just like the 18 yr old dancer on So You Think You Can Dance, take your craft seriously, invest in yourself by getting the right training so when you show up to a casting you make them SHUT UP. Love your curves enough to bring your A game. If its a joke to you, it will be a joke to everyone else.
Just my 2 cents.
