Victoria’s Secret Lingerie Spoof: Tasteless or Justified?

When ABC and FOX refused to air a recent Lane Bryant lingerie commercial, supporters of the plus size retailer were in an uproar.  In an effort to poke fun at Victoria’s Secret and network executives, Landline TV created a spoof on a Victoria’s Secret ad featuring skeletons with blond wigs.  The spoof was posted on Lane Bryant’s blog (Inside Curve) which leads one to believe that they are in complete support of the spoof.

I think our curves should be embraced and celebrated but I don’t agree with poking fun at women who are thinner.  No one should be made fun of because of their size.

I’m on the fence about this one Divas.  Is this ad tasteless or justified and are Lane Bryant wrong for posting it?

  1. Moe says:

I actually liked it but I agree there is a thin line when it comes to mocking. I don’t think women of any size should be made fun of.

  2. Emily says:

I think it crosses the line. I agree with Moe- no woman, no matter what her size, should be mocked like that.

  3. Glen says:

I give it a thumbs down for mocky skinny women. The blogsphere would about blow up if the same happened and a spoof of fat models came out. No wait there was a fuss over the PETA billboard a few months ago. LB your wrong on this one.

  4. Eunice says:

I would have to respectably disagree. I don’t think they are mocking thin women, but believe what they are mocking was this idea that the “perfect woman” is blond and ultra thin. They kept reinstating “the perfect woman” thus signifying what society would have us believe that women are what’s above and they don’t come in different colors and sizes. In essence, they mock the idea, not the woman.

  5. Eunice that’s a very good point you bring up.

  6. Eunice says:

Thank you. This video speaks a lot about the images presented about women in general, not just plus size women. Well, at least I think so.
