Following the lead of V magazine and French Elle and so many others, another magazine has decided to follow the curve and feature plus size models in an upcoming issue. French Vogue will feature provocative photos starring plus size model Crystal Renn who was styled by Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. The May issue which has 3 different covers features Actress Penelope Cruz who was the guest editor for the issue.
I applaud these magazines for pushing the envelope but I tend to question their motives. I am also disturbed by the fact that they often feel the need to feature naked plus size models as if that’s the only way plus size women can be beautiful. At first it was refreshing because it was their way of showing that all women are beautiful regardless of the skin that they are in but showing Crystal Renn’s pubic hair is a bit much.

I love the images of Crystal in the purple and red jacket. Frankly I didn’t mind seeing the pubes — it at least gives girls/women the impression that it is ok to have hair down there for a change instead of having it buzzed off. I found the last image bothered me more b/c it became more like something for a guy than for fashion or body image.
