What’s Your Bridal Style?

It seems that after all these years curves are the new black. From the runways to the pages of some of the top fashion and women’s magazines, plus size women are in the spotlight. And for that I say Bravo!

While many of us dream of being on the cover of a magazine or walking the red carpet with Brad (move over Angelina), the fact is our red carpet moment is our wedding day. It’s the day when all eyes are on us and thankfully many bridal designers and manufacturers have responded by creating gowns in a range of sizes to suit our body shapes. Still I wondered what about our style?

Not every woman dreams of a fairy princess look on her wedding day. Maybe you’re White House chic like Jackie O or Michelle Obama. Or maybe you’re a little Bohemian like Nicole Richie. Perhaps you’re all about drama and glamour like Penelope Cruz, Halle Berry or Beyonce. Whatever your style, you want your gown and wedding to reflect your personality.

Now what about your couple style? When you and your sweetie step out what words would people use to describe you? Are you regal and elegant like President and Mrs. Obama? Or are you a total glamour couple like Posh and David Beckham? Or maybe you’re an earthy couple like Laura Dern and Ben Harper? Give it some thought.

I’ll use my relationship as an example. Michael and I love books, reading and talking about politics and current events. On any given weekend you can find us browsing the aisles at Barnes and Noble or The Strand Bookstore. So I’d have to say we’re a sort of nerdy couple like Woody Allen and Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, only we are a bit more preppy looking. We’ll likely get married at City Hall though we wouldn’t object to tying the knot at a Barnes and Noble. After we say our I do’s our guests can enjoy a Caramel Macchiato, a latte or the beverage of their choice in the café afterwards. I wonder who I would talk to at Barnes and Noble about that. If Michael and I had a high glam wedding, it would be gorgeous but it wouldn’t ring true to who we are.

So I’m happy to announce that I along with plus size celebrity stylist Sheri Collins are working on a follow up to Down That Aisle In Style. Strut Down That Aisle in Style:
A Celebration Of Romance And Style For The Curvy Bride will take curvy brides to the next level, showing you how you can determine your bridal and couple style to create the wedding of (both of) your dreams. Best of all we are looking for brides to be and their guys to be a part of the book. Send your story and a few photos to curvyrevolutionpr@gmail.com. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Until then remember that Shakespearean quote “To thine own self be true”
