Ugly Betty premiered on September 28, 2006. When it was announced that Ugly Betty would come to an end, many waited patiently. Although fans of Ugly Betty were sad to see this groundbreaking show end, we were anxious to see what feelings the finale would leave us with.
If you recall, last week’s episode of Ugly Betty ended with Taylor firing a gun shot but no one knew who the victim of his reckless behavior was. This week’s episode of Ugly Betty opened with everyone wearing black, holding umbrellas and outside in the rain. It was indeed a funeral, but not for who you think. The funeral was for a dog. Everyone gathered to mourn the death of Amanda’s dog Halston who eventually ended up in Betty’s freezer.
Meanwhile, Betty (America Ferrara) was trying to figure out how to tell her boss Daniel (Eric Mabius) about her move to London, but he found out via email before she could deliver the news. He originally acted undisturbed, but did an about-face and burned the letter that would release her from her contract. Betty appealed to Daniel’s mother Claire for help.
Claire (Judith Light) tells Daniel to tell Betty how he feels about her but that doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Betty’s family is against her plans. Betty’s father is worried about his daughter moving to London, which he has been convinced by the internet is filthy, dangerous, and full of unkind people. Hilda also wants Betty to stay because she and Bobby are looking for a house and she doesn’t want their Papi to be alone.
While Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams) is in a coma, Marc shares his true feelings of wanting her to stop being so vindictive and evil. When she wakes she is greeted by her long lost love who was temporarily released from jail to visit her. Claire visits her in the hospital to attempt to pay her off if she agrees not to confess that Taylor shot her. Originally Wilhelmina had decided to let it go but in true Wille style she changed her mind and announced that she would take over Mode instead and she could not be paid off. With the help of Marc, she eventually decided to say that she shot herself while cleaning her gun.
Betty who is unsure whether to go to London or not, decides she must leave after an encouraging talk with her nephew.
Daniel shows up at the office during the party and although Claire encourages him to speak to Betty he decides against it. Instead he pays Wilhelmina a visit in her office and decides to step down making her the only Editor In Chief at Mode.
The ending shows Betty as a London girl on the move but it’s a happy ending after all. Daniel decides to make a new start by moving to London. They bump into each other in London and he asks her out to dinner and she accepts. Before saying goodbye Betty let’s him know that she’s looking for a new assistant and Daniel let’s her know that he may submit his resume for the position.
Ugly Betty will be missed by many but we will never forget the boundaries it broke. Not only did this show open doors for “curvier” actresses but it was centered around a Hispanic family on network television.
P.S. I predict them doing a movie to reunite the cast one day.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO UPSET ABOUT A SHOW BEFORE. THE ENDING JUST LEFT ME WANTING MORE!
I actually haven’t watched much this season. After Geo left it pretty much went down hill. I did tune in for this episode though and I think they tied things up nicely. I like how they didn’t push Betty and Daniel into a love relationship at the end but left it open for the possibility. He did after all follow her to London.
I could see a movie in the future for sure. LOL
