Howard Stern & Others Need to Leave Gabby Alone

Recently Howard Stern voiced his opinions of Oscar nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe on his show, “The Howard Stern Show”.   He said things about her needing to lose weight and what’s sad is that he echoed what others are thinking but aren’t bold enough to say publicly.  Blogger Laura Beck, voiced her opinion on the Huffington Post and brought up some very good points.

Laura states…..

Personally, I don’t think she’s someone who is in need of our mass pity disguised as concern. I’m pretty sure she’s doing better than most of us professionally right now, and her future is looking so bright, she’s gotta wear shades.

My opinion…..

Having a pity party for Gabby is the last thing anyone should do.  If you haven’t seen her on talk shows, then you are missing out on one of the most vibrant personalities Hollywood has seen in a long time.  Not only is she adorable but she is happy with herself….something that losing weight cannot guarantee.

Laura states…..

Losing weight is not easy and (gasp!) some people don’t even want to do it. Society continuing to harass and shame fat people isn’t helping anyone, it just makes the people doing the harassing and the shaming feel superior.

My opinion……

Critics like Meme Roth and so many others act as if snapping a finger or clapping your hands will make the weight disappear.  The weight didn’t appear overnight and I doubt if it’s going to go away that fast.

Laura states……

Gabourey knows she’s fat. Trust me, you can’t be fat — you can’t even really be a normal weight — in this society and not be reminded every minute of every day that your size is up for judgment.

My opinion…..

As a plus size woman I can attest to this.  I have a full length mirror in my room which reminds me daily of how beautiful I am.  When looking at myself, I take it all in so I see what others see and so does Gabby.

  1. I think Howard Stern is an ass, and shouldn’t be saying anything about anybody especially Gabby Sidibe. She is pretty, talented, funny, and full of confidence. She’s the definition of vibrant! (She did a guest spot on the Soup last night which had me in stitches. Then I saw a very cute clip from the red carpet where she propositioned Gerard Butler. With that type of personality, you can’t be held down. However, I don’t think Hollywood is going to be going out of their way to make superstars out people Gabby’s size which is a shame.

  2. Moe says:

I agree with BSB, total “ass”. I recently saw a clip of his “best mistress” competition with three of the women Tiger was with. Totally tasteless on all sides.

As for his comments, we pretty much all know he says what he says to get air time and attention. And it works. It’s good for marketing. The lewder he is the more money seems to come in.

I think Gabby’s a remarkably genuine girl who will have a successful career no matter what she decides to do and regardless of what Stern or other naysayers put out there. I wish her well.
