When Oprah originally announced that she would soon be saying goodbye to the world of daytime talk, many questions entered the mind of viewers, networks and her peers. ABC News recently compiled their own list of potential Oprah replacements. Two things are for sure….whoever replaces Oprah needs to be an over the top personality with a loyal fan base.
Rosie O’Donnell
- TV is familiar turf for the comedian.
- O’Donnell sparked memorable on-air spats with Donald Trump and fellow “View” co-host Hasselbeck.
- Viewers tuned in for verbal sparring, which isn’t what usually draws “Oprah’s” masses to the tube.
Chance of taking over O territory: 7 out of 10.
Ellen DeGeneres
- She can talk, she can joke, she can dance, she can sing (or at least, judge singing).
- She can charm audiences and the industry with her ease on all types of TV.
- DeGeneres is passionate about causes.
Chance of taking over O territory: 9 out of 10.
Rachael Ray
- She’s the princess in Winfrey’s Harpo empire.
- Her profile’s not quite high enough yet.
- If Winfrey wants to keep talk show dominance in the family, Ray’s the woman to promote.
Chance of taking over O territory: 8 out of 10.
Tyra Banks
- Supermodel Tyra Banks long ago proved that her prowess extends beyond the runway.
- She’s conquered reality television and then dove into the talk show arena.
- Like Oprah, she recently announced that she was leaving her talk show to pursue bigger and better things.
Chance of taking over O territory: 6 out of 10.
Conan O’Brien
- He’s reportedly talking with Fox about starting up his schtick on their network, but that’s anything but a done deal.
- Going from late night to daytime TV would be the career move of the century, and a way to ensure that Jay Leno doesn’t tread on his time slot.
- Unfortunately his fans may not like the switch.
Chance of taking over O territory: 1 out of 10.

Oy, doesn’t look promising. I wouldn’t be surprised if Oprah suddenly backed Gayle for the spot. LOL
I’VE ENJOYED HAVING OPRAH ON MY TELEVISION SCREEN HAHAH…AND NOT HAVING HER WILL BE SO DIFFERENT AND DIFFICULT TO ADJUST TO. HER TOPICS ARE UNPRECEDENTED AND SOME ARE EVEN THOUGHT PROVOKING. HOWEVER I MUST SAY THAT ELLEN HAS IMPRESSED ME OVER THE YEARS THAT I’VE WATCHED HER T.V SHOW. SHE’S SO EASY GOING. SHE COULD MAKE THE SINGLE MOM, WHO COMES BACK FROM A HARD DAYS WORK, SMILE!I SAY YAY TO ELLEN AND NAY TO ANYONE ELSE….IF MY VOTE COUNTS…
Replacement? Who said there going to be a showafter she leave? I had a problem with most of her shows was relating to the white community. Very few was relating to blacks. Am I the only one with that feeling?
UHM…HER SHOWS WERE NOT DIRECTED IN ANY SPECIFIC RACIAL DIRECTION DEAR. THEY WERE JUST STORIES ABOUT EVERYDAY THING …COMMON PEOPLES’ LIVES. AND SOME OF THE SHOWS WERE EVEN AIMED AT MAKING EVEN THE MOST COMMON, UNACCEPTED PEOPLE FEEL STRONG AND MOTIVATED FROM THE STORIES OF OTHERS,AT LEAST , THAT’S HOW I SEE IT. I AM A YOUNG BLACK SOUTH AFRICAN GIRL, AND I DO NOT SHARE YOUR FEELINGS.
THE ENTIRE ARTICLE IS BASED ON A REPLACEMENT SHOW FOR HER, SO LETS GIVE THE AUTHOR THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT AND SAY THAT HE/SHE ACTUALLY DID THEIR RESEARCH…EVEN IF THEY DIDN’T, IT ‘S A FUN TOPIC NONE THE LESS.OPRAH IS A LIVING TALK-SHOW HOST LEGEND AND TRYING TO COMPARE HER TO OTHER EXISTING HOSTS IS QUITE COMPLIMENTARY TO HER…SHE IS A BLACK WOMAN-PROBLEM SOLVED….SHE RELATED TO THE BLACK COMMUNITY JUST BY HER HARD WORK AND UNPRECEDENTED HIGH STANDARDS, NOT EVERY GUEST SHE HAD HAS TO BE BLACK.
I AM A BLACK WOMAN ALSO. LALIK YOU BELIEVE WHAT YOU WANT AND I BELIEVE WHAT I WANT. 75% OF HER SHOW WAS FOR ONE RACE AND 25% WAS THE FOR THE OTHER. YOU MIGHT NOT AGREE BUT HER EVEN THE PEOPLE THAT CME TO SEE THE SHOW WAS MOSTLY ONE CERTAIN RACE. TWICE A MONTH IT WOULD BE A SHOW THAT INTREST THE 25% RACE.
Actually, I must agree that Ann’s point of view is a commonly shared one in the black community. I know a lot of people that feel like her topics have fallen off and do not relate to the everyday working class African Americans. I, myself, stopped caring for her and her show years ago…because rarely do I find her topics relatable. My mom doesn’t watch, not many people I know do not watch.
As far as a replacement, I dont think they will replace her.
