I feel that placing a woman in the plus size category by just the size can be conflicting to what the industries categorize it to be. If a woman has a 44 chest and a size 10 bottom should she be considered plus size? I would think that it would depend on the overall measurements. I agree with T Marlene's comment that a 6' woman that wears a size 12 or 14 will look thinner than a woman who is 5'2 and wears a size 14. As we all know size is just a number! Good question.

I've worked in plus size clothing stores so I'm pretty firm with size 14 as the beginning of the plus size range. That's also the size that has the most difficult time finding clothes and usually have to shop in regular and plus stores

For those that say a specific dress size need to think long and hard about that. I say this because, if you complain about these catalogue companies and plus size designers not using plus size models then you're contradicting yourself. By definition a 6'0 tall woman in a size 12 or 14 looks thinner than the "average" woman. Agencies most use sizes 10-16 but 5'8 or higher. I constantly see complaints on 'well that's not plus size' or 'that's not a accurate depiction of a true plus woman' but when you make a blanket statement of "Size 12+ is plus size" then realize that this includes women of all heights so don't get mad when the industry continues to use taller/slendor plus size model. Just my opinion.

I'm still anticipating the day when there is equal representation from size 12-28 including all heights.
