Fashion has truly lost a visionary. Alexander McQueen for years has embodied the very essence of avante garde fashion. As head designer for Givenchy, he designed classic pieces that carried the sheik style that Givenchy was known for. In his own line, Alexander McQueen and McQ, he pushed the envelope and challenged the worlds view of fashion and fantasy. What I loved so much about what he did was that he was able to design 8 inch heels covered in houndstooth fabric but yet so beautifully able to make ready to wear, red carpet fashions. Many people dont know this but he was responsible for creating the malfunctioned wardrobe that Janet Jackson wore during the Super Bowl that fateful year.
Many innovators and visionaries of fashion are also tortured spirits, taxed with the pressure of continuously creating collections meant to inspire but also meant to speak truthfully to their unique vision. Andre Talley, Editor for Vogue Magazine has said that Alexander was a “poet”. I so agree. He brought you into his world and you never wanted to leave.

What a great pity this is! Such a terrible loss.
Such a great loss.
