First a teacher cuts Lamya Cammon’s hair out of frustration, now a pre-kindergarden gets suspended for having hair that’s considered too long.
Last month Dallas school officials sent a letter home to Taylor Pugh’s parents advising them to either cut their sons hair or risk him being suspended. His hair which he planned to cut and donate to a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients. His hair did not get cut and his school made good on their threat and suspended the young boy.
Upon returning to school after his suspension, his hair was longer than it was before. This time the school put him on a in-school suspension. Taylor’s dad doesn’t think his son should be punished for something that has nothing to do with his education.
What do you think? Was the school wrong for suspending a boy because his hair was too long? How long is too long for a young boy?

While I think that this is ridiculous, there is still the fact that a dress code is most likely in effect. I know of a boy’s private high school that stated hair could not go past the collar. If there is something in the dress code about hair length, then the parents should address that with the officials and see if it can be amended for the future. For example, we had drives for Locks of Love at my high school. Maybe if the school puts a drive like that together, they could suspend a hair length policy until the event is over.
In my opinion, four years old is a little young to be enforcing a hair length policy. At that point, the parents are still in control about their hair cuts and styles, and it is unfair to punish the child for something that he or she most likely has no control over, especially for a little boy who is showing an interest in charity. I say that, for any student, as long as they keep it neat, there shouldn’t be a restriction on length.
this is totally ridiculous.
who are they to dictate how long someones hair is.
i know that some schools, like my kids for example have a rule that hair should be a natural color meaning not blue or green but to try to dictate length and to suspend a kid over it?
crazy!
I completely agree with you @goody. On top of that the kid is 4 yrs old. I remember seeing photos of my older brother as a toddler with long hair. Eventually my dad insisted that my mom cut his hair.
I agree with everyone on this. People spen too much time tripping over little things like this….where is the love
