How To Apply Shimmer

shimmercheeksOne beautiful way to get a glow is through shimmer, but do it the wrong way and you run the risk of looking like Jermaine Jackson in Texas in July! (I have the feeling I’ve used that joke already…lol). In this post I’ll break down the right (and wrong) way to do shimmer!

First things first…
1. Understand that shimmer highlights an area, so avoid wearing it in areas that have blemishes.
2. Pick one feature to highlight and keep the shimmer off everything else. If you don’t, just take a look in the mirror and Jermaine will be staring right back at you!
3. Avoid wearing shimmer in areas where you have enlarged pores or acne.
4. If you have oily skin, it’s best to use shimmer in powder form. Normal to dry skin should try shimmer in cream or liquid form.
5. Shimmer works on all skin tones! I love an icy shimmery color on fair skin, bronze on medium to tan skin, and champagne or berry on deep skin.
6. If you’re trying to trim the costs on your beauty routine, you can use a shimmery eyeshadow already in your stash to highlight your cheeks, lips, and decolletage.

Application tips:
Eyes–You can turn an otherwise neutral eye look into instant glamour just by dipping a pointy eye brush (or a clean pinky) into some shimmer and dot it in the corners of your eyes. Not only does this add chic to your eyes, but it also helps to open them up (the better to ‘smile with your eyes‘ with, my dears). Shimmer also looks great when used as a highlighter for the brow bone area, and I can’t say enough about how “I’m naturally this beautiful” a shimmery nude looks on your eyes. Bobbi Brown is known for these—just find a shade that closely matches your skin tone.

Cheeks–apply shimmer in a C-shape from the temples to the tops of the cheekbones with your index finger. Add some blush just below that and see how the shimmer pops and makes your cheeks look fabulous.

Lips–apply a shimmery gloss on top of your existing lipstick/gloss stash for tons of new lip looks. Dot the shimmer on the center of your lips for a touch of va va voom!
