Tips For Keeping Online Friends Out Of Your Personal Life

black woman on computer5Facebook, Twitter and Myspace give others a front row view to your life. Your friends on social networking sites often consist of your family, friends, your friends family members or someone who just looks familiar. You share your thoughts, your likes, dislikes and everything in between with your friends (some of whom you’ve never met). So what happens when something serious happens in your life? What happens when you break up with your beau or even worse when you’re going thru a divorce? Here are a few tips to keep social media out of your personal life.

1) Keep your comments simple. Your frustrations can be felt through your comments causing people to ask you what’s wrong. Keep your comments to a minimal and try not to go into detail about certain things.

2) Be selective. If you know that you’re the type of person that is open on social networking sites, it’s best to choose your friends wisely. This will ensure that you’re not sharing your laundry with strangers.

3) Don’t become friends with your kids. The last thing you want to do is involve your kids in any drama you may be going through so as a rule of thumb don’t invite them to be your friend. Chances are they don’t want you to see what they’re doing either.

4) Create a backup account. A friend of mine has two accounts; one for family, the other for friends. By doing this she makes sure the family (kids included) does not see anything that will tarnish their view of her.

5) Don’t air your dirty or clean laundry. The best way of avoiding input from you face book and twitter friends is by not posting your bizness. If you don’t post, no one will ever know what you’re going through.
