About 2 weeks ago Terrance Howard & Taraji P. Henson (both of Hustle & Flow fame) were guests on The Monique Show. As past Oscar nominees, Monique, who many think will be nominated for an Oscar, decided to ask Terrance & Taraji a few questions so she could get a further understanding of the process and it’s importance.
“You have to prove your artistic nature to everyone that’s around you in order for them to be your supporters, stated Terrance. He continued, “Because your fans here aren’t necessarily the members of the Academy.”
After back and forth conversation, Monique eventually asks, “What does it mean financially?”
I’ve been reading a number of blogs and websites criticizing her money focused question. Many people feel that Monique is not seeing the big picture and see her comments as being inappropriate, but she’s a talk show host who was just keeping it real.
When an employer offers me a job, I may ask them a bunch of fluffy questions but the only question on my mind is “How much do you pay?”
But my question is what’s wrong with that. What’s wrong with a person questioning the financial gain as well as the professional gain?

There is nothing wrong with it girl! Someone is always going to get criticized for something but Monique was just keeping it real and that is who she is.
I agree Limarie. When I first heard about this it was because she apparently was refusing to do appearances to promote the movie. From what I understand, they weren’t paid what they would usually get to do a movie so I guess she wanted to get paid to do appearances, especially, since Tyler Perry & Oprah Winfrey came on board to as Executive Producers. So everyone else can make money off this movie but Monique cant? People should put themselves in her shoes.
Hmmm I guess I missed this episode, I usually try to stay up and watch it. I don’t see anything wrong with her asking what it’s like financially. I bet Terrance and Taraji didn’t give her any numbers anyway LOL I’m proud of Mo’Nique, she’s blossoming right in front our very eyes and she’s strategically building her brand like no other. A sistah needs to know she’s not being duped when the time comes, ha!
