If you’re like me, you loved the 2007 hit musical Hairspray. While the original starring Ricki Lake was great, I love watching Nikki Blonsky and Queen Latifah shake a tail feather. Good news, Hairspray 2 is in the works! In Hairspray 2: White Lipstick, expect the same comedic tone of the prequel as Tracy (Nikki Blonsky) enters the late 60’s. Filled with nostalgic 60’s music and historical references to the Vietnam war and the British invasion, Tracy is now famous and hated because of her refusal to lose weight.
Link (Zac Efron) is back and now he’s trying to pass as a member of the British Invasion so he can remain hip. He even goes as far as getting a mop-top Beatles inspired hairstyle. Edna (John Travolta) gives in to societies standards and takes diet pills resulting in a major weight loss, but it backfires. Edna catches her husband lusted after plus size women.
Overall, the film that’s tentatively scheduled for release in June or July 2010 promises to be as inspiring, fun and memorable as the first one.
