YouTube As A Learning Tool

October 9, 2009 by Daily Venus Diva · 1 Comment

youtubeasalearningtoolAnyone in denial that technology is here for the longhaul needs to check out YouTube. While it is intended for teens and adults, it’s gaining popularity among children. Your elementary school kids are tuning into YouTube whether you realize it or not. In fact according to Nielsen VideoCensus, more children under 13 watched videos in August on YouTube than on Disney.com, Nick.com and Cartoon Network combined.

Since I am an avid YouTube watcher, this concerns me because there are videos on YouTube that I stumble upon and feel like I should not be watching. Kids will be kids and unless you have a very tight hold on them, they may tune into YouTube every so often. If they do, make the best of it by weeding out the bad content and focusing on the good content. You’ll be surprised at how much learning material is on YouTube. Just the other day I found an old clip from Sesame Street and couldn’t help but sing along.

  1. There is so much that I have learned on Youtube it is crazy….from how to walk the catwalk to how to do a smokey eye and rod set my hair to preparing different meals….it is information at the touch of your hands, like google but you can see your answer in action. There are some good and some bad but that is with everything….thank God we have the choice what we want to spend our time looking at…as far as our kids are concerned, the one thing that you know you can do is just teach them what is right and wrong and why and then the choice is up to them. I would def keep my eye on the younger ones that really don’t know any better and might stumble across something perverted or inappropriate but I LOVE YOU TUBE!!! It really can be used as a positive learning tool.
