While the designers that we have familiarized ourselves with over the years are reluctant to showcase Plus Size Models on the runway, many designers in India are embracing the buxom beauties.
“I have never done a collection earlier keeping health in mind. But my overweight clients keep telling me that normal clothes often don’t suit them. So I thought lets do it for them this time. It is a myth that the obese cannot be fashionable,” said City designer Tejas Gandhi after a fashion show during Kolkatta Fashion Week.
“Well in other shows I had a perception that you need to have a hourglass figure to walk the ramp. I am not even near the word ‘hour’, and it’s very different,” says Shubhra Dutta, one of the models.
The show was organized by the Mani Square and the Bariatrics and Metabolism Initiative (BMI).
It focused on creating awareness on obesity related problems and importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. It also emphasised on being healthy, neither obese nor too thin.

Bravo!
