Just as fashionistas have Fashion Week, those of us who are wedding obsessed have Bridal Market Week. It only comes along twice a year and there is so much to see, it’s hard to decide where to begin. In the big scheme of things, it’s not a bad problem to have.
I attended the Wedding Channel Couture Show at the Intercontinental Barclay Hotel. The hotel practically becomes one stop shopping for everything bridal under the sun from gowns to accessories with names you know to a few new players on the block.
Wedding Gowns
David Tutera by Faviana
Many of you know David from his WE TV show My Fair Wedding, where he makes over the bride and her wedding from soup to nuts. Now David has teamed up with Faviana to produce a line of celebrity inspired bridal gowns, without the hefty price tags. The gowns will retail from $1000-2100. With style names like Charlize, Penelope, Cameron, Fergie, Gwenyth and Salma, the idea is to bring red carpet style to the white carpet. Moreover David hasn’t forgotten about full figured brides; with a size range from 18-24. So if you’ve imagined yourself glowing like J-Lo on your big day, David’s Jennifer, a strapless chiffon dress with sweetheart neckline in a curve hugging mermaid shape is just the ticket.
This is a new line so be sure to check the website www.davidtuterabyfaviana.com to see what retailers are near you. I will say this, you won’t be disappointed.
St. Pucchi
I attended St. Pucchi’s 2010 runway show at The Essex House. Designer Rani Totman’s theme was a tribute to beauty and she didn’t disappoint. Inspired by her travels to the Smolny, the Hermitage and the museums and cathedrals of St. Petersburg, her collection was a bold, yet modern take on old world elegance. Her fabrics ranged from rich and luxurious Duchess satin to light and elegant organza and Chantilly lace. Her creations were regal and would make any bride to be feel like a princess or dare I say a queen. If you’re looking to make an entrance, St. Pucchi is the way to go and she hasn’t forgotten about plus size brides. Check out her website at www.stpucchi.com.
Accessories
Laura Jayne
One company I took note of was that of Laura Jayne. Based in Canada this company has a comprehensive collection of accessories for the classic to the Bohemian bride. They even have the most adorable bridal hats (think Jackie O not the 70’s) for brides who want to get in touch with their inner Mad Men. Check out their site www.laurajayne.com.
Alas that’s all I have for now. I’m still trying to recover from my wedding couture candy overload, but like all kids who have indulged just a little too much, it was worth it.
