Just wanted to touch on a subject that I’m now getting familiar with. It seems that a lot of plus women stress about being labeled a high risk pregnancy because of their weight or they fear getting pregnant because of the weight gain during pregnancy. Always keep in mind that every woman’s body is different. While, it is suggested that plus women only gain between 15-20 lbs the entire pregnancy, the number is higher for smaller women. Entering my 2nd trimester I have not gained any weight. Odd, you say. Nope not exactly.
Come to find out many plus women tend to lose weight during pregnancy especially when it’s their first. High risk is not just a weight issue, it’s about blood pressure, family history, and diabetes. So don’t fret of the weight you lose or the amount of weight you may gain. It’s only a concern when your doctor tells you it’s a concern to your or your baby’s health during pregnancy.
BabyCenter.com is a great resource that has tons of topics specifically for plus women and even has plus community areas on their message boards. Get pregnant, come join us and thrive in your beautiful pregnant plus curves.

I always wondered about this, and I never heard that many plus women tend to lose weight during their first…interesting. Well thanks for sharing with us some of the concerns and facts about plus pregnancy and also congratulations and keep on sharing !!!
I agree, keep on sharing.
I only gained 8kg’s for the whole pregnancy and once my daughter was born, I bounced back to my pre-pregnancy weight.
I did get hassled about my weight and concerns about diabetes etc, but there was no issue at all.
Staying fit and healthy is the key
i definitely will keep sharing.
nicki – you are absolutely right to stay fit and keep healthy. too many women take the term eating for two to heart. if you struggled with weight before a baby then just eating whatever you want when pregnant is a sure fire way to have problems after. i do cave into my cravings from time to time but overal i eat cereal, fruit, veggies, and protein. thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this article. When I got pregnant with my daughter, I only gained 15-lbs and I carried “small.” People thought I was dieting while I was pregnant! She was growing, I was not. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. With diet, I was able to avoid taking medicine for it. I even ended up losing a couple of pounds during my last two months of pregnancy. It was a high risk pregnancy for reasons not related to my weight.
Glad you responded, it’s good to show people both sides. It seems like a lot of plus women worry about weight gain and I’ve gained weight during this pregnancy but not all plus women do. Although I’ve gained the weight the baby is growing on point and my blood pressure is good so I haven’t been considered high risk.
Thanks for sharing,
