While everyone is applauding the efforts of Glamour Magazine and Brigitte Magazine, Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t care for the use of “Real” size women on the runway. “No one wants to see curvy women,” the German fashion designer was quoted as saying.
“You’ve got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly,” he continued.
Fashion is about “dreams and illusions”, Lagerfeld said, and thinks the idea that Brigitte magazine would use real women in favour of professional models on its pages is “absurd”.
Everyone is entitled to his opinion but designers with this thought process are apart of the problem and not the solution.
It’s okay to state your preference but when you make comments like the one’s Mr. Lagerfeld has made, it can be viewed as a strong dislike towards people of a certain size. He and others are completely missing the point. It’s not about alienating any group of women, it’s about embracing all women, something that his clothing is not known for doing.

him and janice dickenson share the same brain…a very small malnourished one
Wow, I knew that many fashion designers prefer skinny models (ignoring the words anorexia nervosa, which is becoming a plague among teenagers and even adult women), but the comment is downright rude. Yes, what if there ARE fat mothers in front of the TV with a bag of chips? Should they be banished from the face of the Earth? Exactly what size (height, weight, breast size, shoe size, etc) does Mr Lagerfeld think that all of us should be so that we fit his dream? And after we banish those fat people, which other groups he might dislike are we going to wipe out? It’s disgusting, hearing such comments from the mouth of people that have influence, looks like some of them should refrain from sticking their foot in that mouth of theirs before speaking. Oh, and think that, fortunately, none of us can shape the world according to their standards and that the world is beautiful because the creatures that live on this planet are so diverse. SHAME!!!
It is a shame that in a society in which women are mainly adorned in such beautiful and creative fashions for profit, that the creators of these fashions can not seem to open up their minds enough to create fashions that meet the needs and desires of ALL women. We are beautiful no matter what size, height age or race, why not embrace us all as that way?
Plus if you are creative and talented enough to create such lovely fashions, why not challenge yourself to create fashions that can fit and compliment all women? Could we assume that designers who have one-sided minds are scared to step out of the cookie cutter box…oh what a shame.
Mr Lagerfeld is an old poof in his 70′s who was always chunky until a few years ago when he himself developed anorexia. As a large woman with a large bank account, at one time I bought Chanel clothes, wfor which he is designer — now they are designed for thin emaciated bimbos and I buy Marina Rinaldi.Who cares what this pathetic old man with his ridiculous pony-tail thinks?
@Iris

I,m sorry but I went and looked at mr. Lagerfeld’s Collection and I,m sorry but I would not care if I was Slim or A stick I would not ware his clothes they are just plain ugly so what he says does not affect me in any way . small minded people are becoming Few and far between and him and people like him will soon become Like the ,dinosaur Extinct , its a shame that some people get so big in there heads that they forget where they came from and that normal people come in all sizes , not just stick size.
