Viewing an advertisement for your favorite make-up line or beauty product is one thing, but receiving feedback from an actual consumer with similar concerns is not only refreshing but helps to legitimatize the reviews released by the manufacturer. “Originally started as just a space for me to express myself”, Patrice Yursik started ‘Afrobella’ a blog site where she shares with readers her likes and dislikes on various products. According to Patrice, “We came up with the name on a whimsical evening, but it has a deeper meaning. Afro — all that is of Afro origin, the African Diaspora, and a specific hair texture. Bella — beautiful. The word just sounded so right when we came up with it.”

Staying honest is strength of ‘Afrobella’. Sticking to reviewing products that she likes or things that may interest her readers have made ‘Afrobella’ a favorite among women with diverse backgrounds including celebrities. “I prefer to know what a product does before I endorse it by mentioning it on my blog, so sometimes my reviews take a while. But they’re always honest and truly product tested, so my readers know what to expect if they buy it.”

When asked what types of products she can recommend to the readers of Venus Diva, her reply is:
“For readers with natural-textured kinky, coily hair definitely Miss Jessie’s products. Curly Meringue is my favorite. I also love Curls Milkshake, and a great place to start is with Devacurl No Poo and One Condition. Natural hair needs a different kind of love. For makeup, I’ve never gone wrong with MAC, NARS, Prescriptives, or Bobbi Brown. For bellas on a budget, the new Cover Girl Last Blast mascaras are fire!”

The future of Patrice & ‘Afrobella’ is a rather bright one. Working on nonfiction Afrobella book is evidence that Patrice has definitely filled a void with her connective spirit and ability to celebrate all things beautiful. “And I think I’m almost ready for TV. I’m still a little shy, but I think I’m ready!”

Why does Patrice think the ladies of Venus Diva will enjoy reading ‘Afrobella’: “Afrobella is positive, it’s intelligent, it’s fun, and I don’t think there’s another blog like it anywhere else. That’s why.”
